Giving back to our doral community
Doral Centre Animal Hospital is all about the community. We are proud to serve the pets and pet owners of Doral and surrounding areas. Being active in the community is also important to us as it gives us the opportunity to give back to those who have done so much for us! We invite you to explore below to learn more about our community involvement. If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
Partnering with Miami-Dade’s Spay/ Neuter Initiative
You may not be aware that Miami-Dade Animal Services is one of the largest shelters in the United States with an average of 100 animals being surrendered to them EACH DAY! Their new administration has worked hard over the last few years to become a no-kill shelter. In 2010, their save rate was only 60% and with hard work, they have raised that number to 85% A huge part of the problem for them has been the gross number of pets that are not spayed and neutered. Miami Dade has launched a county wide initiative to spay and neuter as many pets as possible. We have partnered with them to offer spay/neuter services for the low-income qualified families and feral cats.
Free Spay and Neuter for Feral Cats
This is a TNR program. TNR stands for “trap, neuter & release.” It is 100% free to the individual who brings the cat in. Miami Dade is collecting statistics on where these cats are coming from, so photo paperwork is required. A photo ID is also required by county procedures, but that does not obligate you in any way to the pet. If you have a feral cat in your community, simply call us to schedule a date to bring the cat in. You can contact the City of Doral’s Steering Committee and they will loan you a trap to humanely catch the cat in.
Simply fill out the county’s mandated form and bring proper photo ID and the cat to our clinic. Per county mandate, they will be spayed or neutered, given a rabies vaccine and the ear will be tipped for future identification. We will call you when they are recovered. At that time, you simply come, pick them up and release them back where you found them.
Supporting Local Schools
Doral Centre Animal Hospital is proud to support the education of our local students. We believe that exposure to animal care is a wonderful thing for children as it teaches them about positive pet ownership and can instill an interest in the field. Each year elementary students from Divine Savior Academy come to tour our animal hospital and learn a little about what we do. We also do Career Day talks at other local schools, if requested.
Local Doral Events
Dr. Cabeza sat on the committee that designed the “Trails & Tails Park” here in Doral. She is a big supporter of local community pet events. Last year, Doral launched the first annual “Howl-O-Ween” at the dog park. It was a huge success with an estimated 200 dogs attending.
